Thoughtful Psychiatric Care for Adults in Virginia

Board-Certified Psychiatrist

Therapy-Informed Care

Telepsychiatry

Hi, I’m Dr. Sam Salmassi

I am a board-certified psychiatrist providing thoughtful, evidence-based psychiatric care that integrates psychotherapy skills with medication management.

I completed my psychiatry residency training at Georgetown University, where I worked extensively in inpatient and hospital-based settings caring for individuals with complex and acute psychiatric conditions. I later transitioned to outpatient and clinic-based psychiatry, where I focused on longitudinal care and collaborative treatment planning. During my final year of residency, I served as Chief Resident at the Department of Veterans Affairs, gaining leadership experience while caring for veterans with diverse and often complex mental health needs.

Following residency, I continued working within the VA system, further deepening my experience treating mood disorders, anxiety disorders, trauma-related conditions, and psychiatric conditions occurring alongside medical illness.

In my clinical work, I take a collaborative and individualized approach, combining psychotherapeutic techniques with careful medication management. Sessions often include discussion of sleep, exercise, nutrition, stress, and relationships, as these factors can meaningfully affect mental health and treatment outcomes. My goal is to help patients develop practical skills while receiving thoughtful, evidence-based psychiatric care tailored to their needs and goals.

I work with adults (18+) and offer telepsychiatry services for patients across Virginia.
